I locked a file using docLock but the original unlocked file seems to also remain, am I doing something wrong?
You are not doing anything wrong. We added this feature in as a safe guard for our users. There is nothing worse than locking a file and forgetting the password seconds after you locked the file. With that said, there is a simple process for deleting the original unlocked file. First you can use the “Secure Delete” function of the software. Simply drag and drop the unlocked file into the file box under the “Secure Delete” tab of the software. This will securely delete the unlocked file from your hard drive, and will be completely unrecoverable. Second, you can go to the “Options” tab, and select “Delete Original Files after Locking” This will automatically delete the original file after you lock a file.
I try to unlock a file but for some reason it doesn’t seem to unlock, I still see the locked file?
The file is actually unlocking, also remaining is the locked file for your convenience. Make sure you go back to the area you originally unlocked the file to. That is where you unlocked file will be. You chose this location when you were going through the unlock file process. If you would like the Locked file to automatically delete after unlocking, simply go to the options screen in docLock and choose the option of “Delete Locked File after Unlocking” and you will be all set.
Are there other ways to lock and unlock a file besides using the drag and drop feature?
Yes, there are actually a total of three ways to lock and unlock a file using docLock. First you can drag and drop the file and or folder you want to lock into the file box under “Lock a File” or “Unlock a File.” Secondly you can hit the “ADD” button in the “Lock a File” or “Unlock a File” Screens, and lastly you can right click on any file or folder and select “Lock a File” “Unlock a File” and you also have the option to “Secure Delete” a file from this right click menu.
When I lock a file, I see a box that reads “Save Password as an Image” what does that mean?
This feature actually allows you to save your password inside of an image or photo you have on your computer. We securely encrypt your password into the image or photo that you choose, and when you want to unlock a certain file or folder that is related to that image or photo you simply double click that image or photo and the locked file or folder will unlock without you having to type in your password. This makes remembering passwords simple, as you only need to remember what image or photo you chose to hide your password in.
Can I place a locked file or folder on an external drive, like a flash drive, pen drive, or backup drive?
Yes, you can place any locked file or folder on any external drive you may own. docLock is completely portable. When you place a locked file or folder on your external drive, you only need the password to unlock the file or folder on another computer. When locking a file that you would like to make portable for external drives, simply choose the “Create a Portable Locked File” option under the “Lock a File” screen.
Can I email a locked file or folder to a 3rd party?
Yes, you can email any locked file or folder to a 3rd party recipient, by simply choosing the “Create an Email Friendly Locked File” option under the “Lock a File” screen. The 3rd party will be able to unlock the file with the password that you chose when you created the locked file.
I try to lock and or unlock a file, but I am not able to drag and drop the file into the file box?
Ok, some of your settings might have gotten a bit out of sorts, this can be caused by everyday use of your computer. With that said, this is a very easy fix. Please right click on the docLock icon, select “Properties” then select the “Compatibility” tab then select “Privilege” level and uncheck “Run This Program as Administrator” – Finish by selecting the “Apply” button, then rerun the program.
I have files and folders on my computer that I want to completely erase without ever being recovered by anyone, what can I do? I am also looking to recycle my computer to my local charity is there a feature that will erase my files permanently?
Yes, if you have files or folders on your computer that you want to be permanently erased, deleted and unrecoverable to anyone, you simply choose the “Secure Delete a File” tab within docLock and you can drag and drop any file or folder into the file box to completely erase and render unrecoverable.
I bought a full version of docLock and was delivered a trial. How do I get a fully functional version of docLock?
To unlock the trial version to the fully functional version, you will need to enter the registration key that you were supplied at the time of purchase. Open docLock and click on the button that says “Register” which is located on the left hand side of the application. Enter your registration key and click the “OK” button to activate your full version of docLock.
How do I Lock a File or Folder?

To unlock a file or folder, you can drag and drop the file or folder into the file box below and press the “Unlock” button or you can select a file or folder for Unlocking by pressing the “Add” button, this will allow you to browse your computer for your locked files or folders to be selected. You can also right click on the .doclock file and choose to “Unlock a File.” Once selected you can and press the “Unlock” button.
How do I change a password?
To change your password you can Drag and drop the file into the file box below click on the “Add” button, this will allow you to browse your computer for specific files or folders you wish to change the password for and enter the current password, then follow the prompts.
I am entering my password and I am being told it is invalid?
Please check to see if you have the CAPS set on your computer or maybe you had the CAPS set on your computer at the time of locking the file. There is no ability to reset or retrieve the passwords that are set for the Locked files.
How can I select a different location for the file to be Locked or Unlocked?
At the time of Locking or Unlocking the files, please click on the browse button at the top of the screen and select your desired destination for the files.
