PC Tune-Up FAQs

Download a free trial of PC Tune-Up and save it to your desktop. Locate the PC Tune-Up file on your desktop and double click it to start the installation wizard.
You may see a security warning (shown below) that asks if you’d like to run this software. Click the “Run” button to proceed.

Select the language that you prefer.

The Setup Wizard will open. Simply click the “Next” button to begin.

Review the license agreement and if you agree to the terms, select phrase that states “I accept the terms in the license agreement”, and click the “Next” button. If you do not agree to the terms, click the “Cancel” button and the installation will close.

Choose the folder in which to install PC Tune-Up. The default location is your Program Files folder. If this is okay, click the “Next” button. If you prefer to save it in a different location, click the “Browse” button to select your preferred folder.

Choose a folder in which you would like your application saved in your Start Menu. PC Tune-Up is the default folder. If this is okay, click the “Next” button. If you would like to rename it, enter the new name in the top box. A list of your current Start Menu folders is listed in the bottom box for your reference. If you do not want a shortcut in your Start Menu, click the box at the bottom that says “Do not create shortcuts”.

Now you are able to select which icons you would like installed. If you would like an icon of PC Tune-Up added to your desktop, click the Desktop box. If you would like a PC Tune-Up icon added to your taskbar at the bottom of your screen, click the Quick Launch box. If you do not want either one of these icons installed, deselect each box. Click the “Install” button to proceed.

Please wait while PC Tune-Up is being installed. It may take a few minutes to complete the installation process.

Once complete, you will see a message that PC Tune-Up has been installed on your computer. If you would like to run PC Tune-Up now, click the “Run PC Tune-Up” box and it will open after you click the “Finish” button. If you wish to run PC Tune-Up later, deselect this box and click the “Finish” button.

To ensure you receive product updates, please enter the registration information in the form that appears and click the “Submit” button.

To begin your trial of PC Tune-Up, click the “Start Trial” button on the left side of the PC Tune-Up window.

To purchase through your application, simply open PC Tune-Up and click the “Buy Now” button located on the left.
This will take you to our web site where you can purchase a license key. Once the purchase is approved, you will receive a license key. Open PC Tune-Up and click the “Register” button on the left.
Enter your registration key and click the “OK” button to activate your full version of PC Tune-Up.
To unlock the trial version to the fully functional version, you will need to enter the registration key that you were supplied at the time of purchase.
Open PC Tune-Up and click on the button that says “Register” which is located on the left hand side.
Enter your registration key and click the “OK” button to activate your full version of PC Tune-Up.
You may wish to restore a backup to revert back to previous settings. From the Quick Start screen, click the “Backup” button.
Click the “Undo” link on the left, which is located under the Backup button.
A list of your backups will appear. Select the backup that you wish to revert to and click the “Undo Changes” button.

If you have a full version of PC Tune-Up, you can control the programs that automatically launch in the background when you start your computer. These programs can slow down the start up process significantly when you boot your PC. Please note that trial users do not have access to this function.
The Start Up Wizard can be accessed from any screen in PC Tune-Up by clicking the “Optimize” button on the left side of the application.
Then click on the “Startup” link below the “Optimize” button.

This will list everything that automatically loads when you start your computer. To learn more about an application, click on it and the information will appear in the box below.
You can temporarily stop applications from automatically loading at start up by de-selecting the box to the left of the application. Click the “Save” button once you have de-selected all the programs you wish to stop from loading at start up.

You can also delete an item from your start up menu permanently by selecting the item and then clicking the “Delete” button.

To protect your machine from allowing potentially malicious ActiveX programs to load automatically to your computer, click on the “Protect” button from any screen in PC Tune-Up. This will list all known ActiveX applications with a red X next to each one.

To protect against these potentially malicious programs, click the “Protect All” button. Green check marks will appear to the left of each of the entries to show that you are protected. Please note that if you have a trial version of PC Tune-Up, you will be protected against only 50% of the programs.

For your convenience, PC Tune-Up is setup to automatically run when you start your computer. If you would prefer to change these settings, click on the “Advanced Options” button at the top right of the screen.

At the bottom of the Advanced Options screen is a box that says “Run Magic Button on Startup”. Simply uncheck this box if you don’t want PC Tune-Up to run automatically. Alternatively, you can configure these settings to run Daily, Weekly, or Monthly. Click the “Save” button after making your preferred changes.
